William Roy Swanton

William Roy Swanton died 23/12/1907 at age 18 after drowning at Cronulla Beach. Swanton’s death sparked the beginning of Surf Life Saving in the Shire.

Matthew Mayman died 02/10/1909 at age 31 after being found dead inside his vegetable cart at Newtown. Mayman was a well-known farmer in the Sutherland Shire.

Alice Cashin died 04/11/1939 at age 69. Cashin is remembered as a pioneering nurse throughout WWI and the only Australian nurse to be awarded the Red Cross medal twice.

Helen Willows died 30/03/1895 at age 28 from suspected tuberculosis. Willows was the first burial at Woronora Memorial Park on 01/04/1895, the day before the official opening of the cemetery.

William Judd died 06/12/1929 at age 82. He was the first president of the Sutherland Shire.

Arthur Atkinson

Arthur Atkinson died 23/03/1971 at age 27 after tragically being struck by lightning while training with the Army Reserve at Tianjarra training area at the annual camp.

Anglican Monumental, SECTION 8, Position 0818

John Hamilton

John Hamilton died 27/02/1961 at age 65. At the time, he was the youngest solider in the world to be awarded the Victoria Cross during WWI.
