History Tours @ Woronora Memorial Park | 10:00am - 12:00pm

Step back in time with the Sutherland Shire Historical Society as they unveil stories of those interred at Woronora Cemetery

Wander through the picturesque grounds, where each headstone becomes a chapter, revealing the lives of pioneers, community builders, and those who shaped the very essence of the Shire. From local heroes to mysterious personalities, the tour offers a captivating journey through time. Embrace the opportunity to connect with the past, and witness the living history that rests at Woronora Cemetery.

Important Information:

  • Meet at Cafe near the East St Gates at
  • 9.30am for a 10am start
  • Parking is available at the cafe and throughout the park
  • Bookings are recommended— this is a free event but places are limited
  • Please wear enclosed walking shoes, and bring sunscreen, a hat, and a refillable water-bottle.
  • Please dress for the weather including sun, wind or rain

This event is part of the Sutherland Shire Citizens Heritage Festival.

Embark on a captivating journey through time at Woronora Memorial Park's Heritage Discovery Day with an exclusive opportunity to connect with the heritage of Woronora Memorial Park!

Delve into the rich tapestry of our past as you:

  • Tour through the historic crematorium, uncovering intriguing facts about cremations.
  • History Museum, immerse yourself in our newly established meuseum, featuring original photos, documents, and artifacts unearthed during the chapel renovations.
  • Rose gardens, Stroll through the vast gardens and soak in the pitureque beauty of the park
  • Tour our state-of-the-art new crematorium. Our knowledgeable team will guide you through the facility, demystifying the cremation process and addressing any questions you may have.
  • Self-guided walking history tour, revealing the intriguing that contribute to the Shire's vibrant history.
  • Information stalls and demonstrations on site.

Food

Sutherland Rotary Club of Sutherland will be running a sausage sizzle on the day. All funds raised will go to Rotary.

Tours

Crematorium tours leaving from the front of the south chapel will run at: 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm

Details:

  • Bookings are recomended— this is a free tour but places are limited.
  • Meet at the South Chapel
  • Tours start on the hour, starting at 10.30am with the last tour starting at 2.30pm
  • Parking is available throughout the park and near the chapels
  • Please wear enclosed walking shoes, and bring sunscreen, a hat, and a refillable water-bottle.
  • Photos will be taken on the day. If you do not wish to have your photo taken, please kindly inform the staff on site.
  • This is an all access event and suitable for people of all ages and abilites

The Sutherland Shire Citizens' Heritage Festival bus.

The bus arrives and leaves from the Adelong St Gates near Celeste Cottage Cafe on the hour at 10.05am, 11.05am, 12.05pm, 1.05pm and 2.05pm

SMC_Anzac_Day_Service

Anzac Day Service @ Woronora Memorial Park | 10:00am

Hosted by Shire Military History Club.

Join us on April 18th as we gather at Woronora Memorial Park to pay our respects to the brave soldiers who served in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) during World War I and in all wars since. This ANZAC Day event is open to the public and is a chance to honour and remember those who have served our country.
 
During the ceremony, several speakers will take the stage to offer their thoughts on the significance of ANZAC Day and what it means to them personally. It provides a meaningful opportunity for people to come together and honour those who have given their lives in service to their country.
 
We invite you to join us in this important commemoration of our national history and identity.
 
Refreshments available from 10.45am at the memorial site for those attending the service.

A guided military history tour will commence at 11am from the Military Memorial.

Order of service:

  • 10am - Anzac Service at the Military Memorial
  • 10.45am - Refreshments at the Military Memorial
  • 11am - Guided military history tour, commencing from the Military Memorial.
