Many people struggle to understand the array of options that are currently available to minimise the impact a burial or cremation has on the environment, that's why it is important to join the conversation to learn more about the industry.
On Tuesday the 27th April from 7pm-9pm there is an online event focusing on sustainability in the cemeteries and crematoria industry which will highlight some options that are widely available that can help you to reduce your environmental impact here on Earth when you pass away. The event will feature a panel discussion between the CEOs of the Adelaide Cemeteries Authority, Cemeteries and Crematoria NSW, and Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries NSW. This is the 3rd online event in the series and we are excited to invite you to participate.

Amongst the many discussion points will be renewable interments. What are renewable interment rights? Renewable interment rights were formally introduced in NSW in 2018, allowing for the right to inter a body in a cemetery for a defined period of time , which must be at least 25 years and at most 99 years in total. At the end of a renewable interment right, the remains are removed, and the grave can be reused. Renewable interment rights are considered to be more sustainable because they make better use of existing cemetery space.
The panel will be moderated by Frida Kitas of Randwick City Council and will feature Robert Pitt, CEO for the Adelaide Cemeteries Authority, Jennifer Hickey, CEO for Cemeteries and Crematoria NSW and Isabelle Meyer, CEO of Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries NSW
